IRVINE, Calif., April 21, 2017 – The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Inc. is pleased to announce Adam Wood as the new Director of Government Affairs. Mr. Wood joins BIA/OC bringing experiences from a distinguished career in government and private industry that includes time in Sacramento as a Legislative Director and years in Orange County as a governmental and public affairs professional.
Mr. Wood has deep roots in local government, bolstered by an undergraduate degree in Political Science, a Master Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a law degree from Southwestern Law School. Additionally, Wood is admitted to the California State Bar.
As a nearly lifelong resident of Huntington Beach, Wood has seen firsthand the powerful and beneficial impact development can have on Orange County neighborhoods. Wood seeks to leverage his education, experience and abilities in helping BIA/OC champion housing as the foundation of vibrant and sustainable communities.
“Adam’s background in policy and government affairs will be an invaluable addition to our team. His past experiences will greatly help our efforts in furthering pro-housing policies and educating local electeds on California’s housing crisis,” said Steven LaMotte, BIA/OC Chapter Executive Officer. IRVINE, Calif., December 5, 2016 – The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Inc. is pleased to announce Steven LaMotte as the new Executive Officer for the Orange County Chapter, effective November 21, 2016.
LaMotte, whose previous role with the BIAOC was Director of Government Affairs, has more than 8 years of experience in political and government affairs, serving as senior staff to several members of the California State Assembly prior to joining the BIA/OC.
Mr. LaMotte is a long-time resident of Orange County and is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, and Chapman University, where he received a Master’s Degree in International Studies and Political Economy.
Steven also gained experience as a political staffer on several political campaigns, ranging from statewide to local races. Steven has used his background in the public policy and political arena to work closely with local jurisdictions to champion housing as the foundation of vibrant and sustainable communities.
“As Government Affairs Director, Steven was instrumental in educating local jurisdictions on the housing affordability crisis by focusing on key solutions such as housing supply, flexible development standards, and the negative impacts of losing the millennial generation to other Counties,” said Jim Yates, 2016 BIA/OC Board President.

IRVINE, Calif., July 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Inc. (BIASC) is pleased to announce Michael Balsamo as the new Chief Executive Officer for the regional office effective July 18, 2016.
Balsamo, whose previous role was with the BIA as the Executive Officer for the Orange County Chapter (BIAOC), has more than 20 years of experience in land use planning and real estate development in both the public and private sectors.
Mr. Balsamo is a long-time resident of Orange County and graduate of UC Irvine where he studied both Political Science and Environmental Science. Mike gained experience as a land use planner for the cities of Irvine and Lake Forest following his graduation and has made it his mission to champion building as the foundation of vibrant and sustainable communities.
"Mike's command of issues affecting the [building] industry is key to his leadership of our organization. His keen intellect and wealth of relationships both in the public and private sector make him an excellent advocate for the development community. We are fortunate to have him as our CEO," said Michael Battaglia, BIASC 2016 Board President of CalAtlantic Homes.
"Given the severe housing challenges in our state, it is reassuring to elected officials like myself, that a leader of Mike's caliber is at the helm at BIASC," said Assembly Member Tom Daly.
Lucy Dunn, CEO and President of the Orange County Business Council went on to say that, "Mike has demonstrated great leadership over a long period of time in the public policy arena, BIASC has chosen the right man for the job."
BIASC's new CEO's experience also includes working as a consultant to Irvine Company, Retail Properties Division as a project manager for numerous shopping center developments on the Irvine Ranch, serving as a project manager for Lennar Homes, and serving as the Manager of OC Planning at Orange County Public Works in Santa Ana.
Mike Balsamo will continue to work from BIASC's principle office in Irvine, CA.

The Building Industry Association of Southern California Orange County Chapter (BIAOC) has won the National Association of Home Builders 2015 Award for Best Membership Event for their first ever Women in Home Building Conference entitled “Fearless Leadership” on June 12, 2015 at the Bowers Museum.
The conference was a tremendous success with both men and women attending and sold out months in advance with over 300 attendees It featured keynote speakers, Carey Lohrenz, the US Navy’s first female F-14 Tomcat Fighter Pilot, and Sheryl Palmer, CEO of Taylor Morrison, along with two panels of key industry leaders, one of all men and one of all women.
